Southern Sun Ridgeway’s management and staff have a hands on approach when it comes to extending a helping hand to those ‘less fortunate’ and in need of a boost. To this end, the hotel assists groups and associations who have the same vision by coming alongside them and helping them help others.
A clear example of this help in action is in the way the management freely provides a venue for monthly meetings for organisations such as the Diplomatic Spouses Association, the International Women’s Club of Lusaka and the Lions. ‘By making space available in which planning meetings can be held, we enable these active groups to concentrate on their set tasks without the additional expense of a meeting venue’ says dedicated Food and Beverage Manager Nelson...’. These groups each comprise of 30 people and more and would be hard pressed to find a better location for their monthly meetings.’
Enza Rizzo, current chair of the International Women’s Club Lusaka could not praise the hotel and its staff enough, saying:’ they really go out of their way to accommodate us, and not once have we been made to feel uncomfortable or unwelcome, even though our meetings and the refreshments are donated by the Southern Sun Ridgeway. Everything is always set up perfectly, professionally and I would not hold my business meetings anywhere else’.
The annual Food Fair, which is a fundraising initiative of the Diplomatic Spouses Association sees Southern Sun Ridgeway fully supporting the South African Table, and the money’s raised for exceptionally worthy causes have increased substantially year on year.
Of course these are not the only activities that Southern Sun Ridgeway gets involved in. Annually Adrian Penny and his team assist with the fundraising efforts by contributing prizes for the musical society and musical workshops and cultural exchange programmes by offering visiting performers
accommodation at the hotel. Conservation certainly is an important recipient of the care and generosity of the hoteliers and the beneficiaries here are amongst others Conservation Lower Zambezi, South Luangwa, Wild Do South Luangwa.
The Zambian Tourism Board also receives active support from the Southern Sun Ridgeway Vocational training is offered to street children through ‘Action for Children’, enabling specially selected children to get a glimpse of the hospitality industry with hands on experience and the opportunity to look at this industry as a possible career path.
The list goes on and on including woman’s sport like Zambia’s golden boxing girl Esther Phiri’s support, ladies golf tournaments, support of swimming sensation Maureen... The national soccer team, Seven-a side Rugby and Cricket also receive a generous helping hand.
